Learners using next-generation Carbon Capture and Storage equipment

To address future demands, the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has launched a brand-new range of Skills Bootcamps in Automotive, Construction and Engineering.

This includes the Group’s Skills Bootcamp in Heat Recovery and Transfer which will teach learners how to scope a heat recovery transfer system for their home or business, enabling them to reduce their energy costs by putting waste heat to a useful purpose.

Delivered with transport and logistic specialist ViaMaster Training, the Group is currently delivering a brand-new Skills Bootcamp in LGV Driving. Once the learners have completed the course, they will gain a Cat C driving licence (vehicles over 3,500kg with a trailer up to 750kg) and employment as an LGV driver.

Whilst those studying the Skills Bootcamp in Construction Site Operative are acquiring the knowledge, skills and behaviours to successfully work as General Site Operatives within the construction sector.

They also have the opportunity to take the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card test which gives them access to work on construction sites if passed.

Over 40 learners are currently taking part in the course, with Caval Ltd, Hays, Marlborough Brickwork and Morgan Sindall Construction, providing the learners with job interviews to support them in taking their next steps.

The Group is also introducing two more Skills Bootcamps in Construction, including one in Groundworks and Pipelaying and one in Fenestration.

David White, Head of Regional Partnerships and Projects, said:

With technological advances happening daily, it can often feel as though it’s hard to keep up with the world’s digital transformation. That is why we’re expanding our Skills Bootcamp offer to cover new and growing industries, providing learners with the technical skills and knowledge to operate crucial green technologies or move into high-demand sectors. Our Skills Bootcamps are also delivered flexibly, meaning they are perfect for those wanting to upskill into a higher role, a new career path or even enter the job market.”

The Group will continue to deliver its Skills Bootcamp in the Principles of Carbon Capture and Storage, which was developed with Drax Power, and has already trained 45 people in this climate saving technology – which will play a leading role in helping the UK reach its net zero target by 2050.

Acknowledging its efforts in helping the region develop the green skills for future demands, the Group’s Skills Bootcamp in the Principles of Carbon Capture and Storage programme was presented with the Best Skills Bootcamp Delivery accolade at the Yorkshire Learning Providers 20th Birthday Awards.

The award acknowledged its ability to progress individuals into employment through its innovative and flexible programme delivery, with many learners upskilling in their roles at companies such as Drax and Enfinium.

The courses, which are for 19+ learners, will be delivered flexibly and can run up to 16 weeks, starting on the following dates:
