    We're rated 'Good' and 'Strong' by Oftsed
    The Heart of Yorkshire Education Group has been praised by Ofsted for its ‘Strong’ contribution to meeting regional and national skills needs, with the Group receiving a ‘Good’ grade for every aspect and overall.

    16 Ofsted inspectors carried out a full inspection of the Group’s three Colleges – Castleford College, Selby College and Wakefield College. The Group received the highest grade of ‘Strong’ for its efforts in developing a responsive curriculum which addresses skills gaps in the local, regional and national economy.

    Following consultation with local employers and civic and education partners of the Group, Ofsted praised the Group for the highly effective relationships it has built with a variety of stakeholders - enabling it to have an excellent understanding of skills needs across a wide range of industries.

    The Group was rated ‘Good’ across all four provision types and all four key judgements, including quality of education, behaviour and attitudes of students, effectiveness of leadership and management and personal development.

  • Achievement Rates

    The class of 2024 delivered another strong set of results, with many of our students securing places at Russell Group universities including the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester and the University of Newcastle, whilst some are heading on to prosperous careers in a range of industries.

    The Group saw a 100% pass rate across its T Level programmes in Business & Management, Digital Production, Education & Early Years, Engineering and Health – which it’s a fantastic achievement. ​

    Selby College’s A Level programmes achieved an outstanding 99.5% pass rate. 15 out of 16 of its A Level programmes achieved a 100% pass rate including Art & Design, Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Geography, History, Mathematics, Law, Psychology and more, with 39% of students securing high grades (A*/A/B).

    At Wakefield College, nine A Level subjects achieved a 100% pass rate, with English Literature continuing its remarkable streak by achieving a 100% pass rate for the 19th year running.

    Many of its students have secured places at Russell Group universities including the University of Leeds, the University of Manchester and the University of Newcastle, whilst some are heading on to prosperous careers in a range of industries.

  • National Student Survey

    The University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group is celebrating another strong set of National Student Survey results, with the Group placing higher than the national average in a range of areas.

    Final year students who completed the survey praised the University Centre for its quality of teaching, learning opportunities, academic support and assessments. Over 91% of students were satisfied with the teaching on their course, with nearly 95% of students stating that their course challenges them to achieve their best work – both figures being significantly higher than the sector average.

    More than 90% of students were satisfied with the learning opportunities available to them throughout their course, enabling them to explore ideas and concepts and further build on their skills to prepare them for their futures. The same number of students also found that their course was intellectually stimulating and over 87% said that teaching staff made their subject engaging.
