“I did the Access to HE course in Art & Design here, too so I could get onto a higher education course as I didn’t previously have a Level 3 qualification. I love the independence that I get – the work is all about my own ideas, interpretation, style and practice which is freeing. I enjoy having my own space in the classroom as well. My favourite project was on self-expression which allowed me to incorporate a lot of myself into my canvas work. As it was a final project, I got to exhibit it in the Mechanic’s Theatre with my peers’ work. I want to become an art therapist in the future, so I’d like to continue to complete the full Level 6 degree after this year.”

“It’s a close-knit environment at the College, classes are smaller, and you get more one-to-one time with your tutors as well as getting to know your classmates better which is always useful for peer reviewing. I recommend the University Centre at the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group to those who are intimidated by university and want a smoother transition from school that isn’t overwhelming but nice and relaxing, where you are treated as an adult. My tutors have given me lots of support including being accommodating with my mental wellbeing and have greatly helped my confidence. They do so much more than what is required for us.”
