Course Overview
Bricklayers work on both new build and renovation schemes, on projects ranging from house extensions to city centre commercial development. This course aims to provide a basic knowledge of bricklaying and to develop and practise the skills for employment and a career in this craft area.
This is an ideal course for those who are looking to learn on a full-time basis and have identified that they want to enter the construction industry and have a career as a bricklayer.
Bricklaying study programmes start with a Level 1 Certificate or Level 1 Diploma. Learners progress from this to the Level 2 programme and progression is available to the Level 3 T level study programme.
Alternatively with an employer students can transfer to an apprenticeship programme in year..
A bricklaying labourer could earn up to £17000 per year and a qualified bricklayer can earn over £40000. Qualified experienced bricklayers also have the potential to set up their own company.
These study programmes include learning that relates to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Goal 4: Quality education
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities
On a bricklaying study programme, you will learn through classroom teaching and activity incorporating IT access. The College has designated bricklaying workshops and through practical activity, you will develop your bricklaying skills.
This learning is supplemented with industry engagement. The extent of this depends on the level of the study programme and varies from guest speakers and site visits to carrying out practical activity in a live environment.
