Students dressed as elfs

The Care and Early Years department at Wakefield College have signed up to the Elf Day 2020 to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimers Society.

One of our Care & Early Years Lecturers, Rebecca Holmes has spent the past few years promoting dementia awareness within the college. Last year the Care & Early Years team created a wonderful Dementia Friends wall, which is still a lovely visual reminder that they, as a department, are committed to increasing their understanding and raising awareness.

Rebecca said “So after a bit of a 'hit the ground running' kind off start to the academic year I decided that we can't stop doing what we do best...raising awareness and funds! So i signed up for The Elf Day 2020 to raise funds for Alzheimer's Society. This year has been a tough one for us and our learners. Let's end the term by having a bit of fun!”

In light of the current restrictions Rebecca has set up a Just Giving Page with a target of £100. The team plan to dress up as elves and add elf backgrounds to their online learning sessions to encourage students to sign up to be a Dementia Friend to sessions that week.

“Not only are we raising money for a worthy cause but its also about coming together as a team and doing something a little light-hearted to end the year,” said Rebecca. "The week of the Elf Day 2020 we will be in full elf mode and you can join in too!"
