College celebrates Graduation Ceremony
Over 500 people braved Saturday’s wet conditions to see Wakefield College graduates receive their awards at Wakefield Cathedral. This year’s guest speaker was Paul Reid, Chair of Wakefield First.
Addressing the audience, Paul praised the work of the College and its Principal, Sam Wright: “I have witnessed personally the dedication and commitment you put in day in day out to make Wakefield College such an outstanding establishment. I also see your desire to provide each and every student with the skills that businesses in this area and beyond need. So on behalf of both the students and the businesses of the area let me thank you and your staff for continued outstanding achievement.”
Paul also highlighted the importance of having a skilled workforce for the region, he added: “The combination of motivated students, with relevant skills attuned to a growing local and regional enterprise is what will continue to make Wakefield, Yorkshire, The North, England and the UK such a fantastic place to live and work and a formidable force in an increasingly global marketplace.”
Principal Sam Wright, said, “The annual graduation ceremony is a significant event in the College’s calendar where staff, students, friends and families come together to celebrate the achievements of our higher education learners. Saturday’s event was another proud moment for me and I was delighted to be there to celebrate our learners’ success.”.
This year more than 300 students achieved a higher education qualification at the College including higher national diplomas, higher national certificates, foundation degrees and degrees with honours in a wide variety of areas including education, computing, personnel, childhood studies, care, sports studies, music, engineering, business and management, web design, theatre, marketing, art & design and accounting. Many have progressed on to further study, including top-up degrees at the College and universities across the country.
