"I’m an apprentice at Caddick Civil Engineering and I am studying the Construction Site Supervisor HTQ at Castleford College. I’m quite a practical person and enjoy being at work. I do four days a week at work with one day in college, which helps me gain a qualification which will open doors for me in the future.

The HTQ was chosen by my employer after looking at the HTQs’ benefits and thinking it would be a good idea to get involved. The subjects that I’m studying at college tie into the work that I’m doing at my job, which gives me the context and background of what I’m doing so I can piece different information together and get a wider view of it all. I think it’s a good environment for me to be in to progress my career.

It is very busy at work. It is a building site so there is a lot going off. You have got your own responsibilities which you are left to do. It is not a constructed learning environment. You will have tasks that need to be done, which is what I like.

The day in college allows me to study and work with my tutors. The course that I am on is very involved with my role, so I’ll be studying the course for 18 months. I get various assignments which relate back to the work that I’m doing on site, which will help me to be a Site Manager in the future."
