"I am doing the HTQ in Construction Management. I am working full-time and only have to come into college one day a week which is great. I was nervous when I started, thinking am I too old to do it? Despite being a mature student and mum of one, I settled in well as the HTQ course just fit my life perfectly with a good work/life balance.
I surprised myself at what I could achieve. The teachers are really friendly, and we get really good support. It’s very, very interesting. I really enjoy myself.
A typical week can vary for me because I am an Architectural Assistant for Keepmoat Homes and this varies from being in the office or across the three sites I manage.
My HTQ is preparing me for the future as I’m learning more about the construction industry as well as gaining the practical experience. I take the skills that I’ve learnt from course and apply them into my work life.
I feel really proud to be a woman in construction. There are so many opportunities for women from minority backgrounds. After my HTQ, I want to go onto the Level 5 and progress further with more study. The end goal is to be a Project Manager.
My advice for people wanting to do a HTQ would be just to go for it. It is flexible, and the support is there if you need it. It will open a door of opportunities."
