Course Overview

This course can either be studied at Wakefield College or Selby College.

The study programme will prepare you for a career as a chef in a professional kitchen and will make you highly employable.

During this qualification you will work with local employers on structured work placement, within this offer there will be an opportunity for learners to attend a residential trip abroad and for some students to attend a work placement in the 5* Hilton Hotel Malta.

You will learn by gradually building up a repertoire of skills and techniques, which you will continue to develop within lessons.You will then be able to apply these skills within our onsite restaurant.

Theory lessons will provide you with a full understanding of the theory element of your course expanding your knowledge for assessments.

Please Note: Work placement opportunities will be available.

  • Basic Food Preparation and Cooking
  • Preparing and Serving Drinks
  • Introduction to Kitchen Equipment
  • Health and Safety and Food Safety Awareness in Catering
  • Using Kitchen Equipment
  • Food and Beverage Service Skills
  • How You Will Be Assessed

    You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence that can include observations, assignments, practical tests, written tests, oral questions, witness statements and case studies.

  • Entry Requirements

    3 GCSEs at Grade 9-1.

  • Further Study

    On successful completion and with the required English and Maths grades you can progress through the levels.
