Course Overview
The study programme will prepare you for a career as a chef in a professional kitchen and will make you highly employable.
You will learn by gradually building up a repertoire of skills and techniques, which you will continue to develop within lessons.
You will then be able to apply these skills within Gaskell’s Restaurant, our onsite award-winning restaurant.
Theory lessons will provide you with a full understanding of the theory element of your course expanding your knowledge for assessments.
What You Will Study
This course will cover a range of the topics and units, some of which are listed below:
- Introduction to the hospitality industry
- Customer service in the hospitality industry
- Basic food preparation and cooking
- Preparing and serving drinks
- Introduction to kitchen equipment
- Health and safety and food safety awareness in catering
- Using kitchen equipment
- Food and beverage service skills
- How You Will Be Assessed
You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence that can include observations, assignments, practical tests, written tests, oral questions, witness statements and case studies.
- Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs Grade 9-3, including in English and Maths
AND
A genuine interest in the Hospitality and Catering industry
AND
A good reference from Head of Year 10 or Headteacher - Further Study
On successful completion and with the required English and maths grades you can progress through the levels.
