Course Overview
Interested in gardening and horticulture? Prefer to work and learn at the same time? An apprenticeship in horticulture could be the course for you.
This course would suit someone who is practically motivated and enjoys working outside but wants to improve both their skills as and theory knowledge.
For your time away from your employer you will be based at our horticulture site in Thornes Park and work on a variety of practical projects and help develop the garden.
What You Will Study
The course is split between theory knowledge and practical skills. College sessions will include some classroom-based work as well as practical sessions at our Thornes Park horticulture site.
Over the course of the apprenticeship you will learn a range of subject areas including how to prepare new ground for planting, soil structure and how to improve it, how to propagate new plants from seeds and cuttings, planting out displays and borders, creating and maintaining boundaries, water features and maintaining grassed areas. You will complete Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides and Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Handheld Equipment.

No formal entry requirements.
You must achieve Level 1 in English and Maths whilst studying the course and attempt Level 2.
