Course Overview

This study programme is designed to provide an interesting introduction to the world of business. You will have the opportunity to develop a range of skills and techniques essential for successful performance in working life. You will develop the communication skills needed for working in the business sector and will achieve a Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies.

Take your first steps towards a career in business with this full-time study programme taught by dedicated professionals.

Your course will be an interesting mix of classes, lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations and independent student research. Teaching will include use of digital facilities where you will research and study the latest travel and tourism news and information, and some will be in classrooms where you will prepare for work in the industry. You will develop skills using the latest travel industry directories and manuals. College links with companies such as Fly Me, Jet 2 Holidays, Travel Counsellors and Selby Tourism Department will provide opportunities for students to learn from real-life experience.

As well as the above you will complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations and activities. Learning methods will include classroom presentations, group work, research tasks, exhibitions and visits and guest speakers.

  • How You Will Be Assessed

    Assessments will also be varied to ensure you have every opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge. You may be assessed through practical tasks, short-answer questions, research tasks, written assignments, producing visual displays such as leaflets, observations of role-play.

    Students may also undertake research, case studies and investigations, presenting your findings in a variety of formats such as reports, brochures and presentations that you might find in working situations within the industry.

  • Entry Requirements

    3 GCSEs at Grade 9-1.

  • Further Study

    On completion with the appropriate pass and English and maths grades, you can progress through the levels. A range of higher education courses such as Foundation Degrees, Honours Degrees in Management and Business offered by the Heart of Yorkshire Education Group. Alternatively, there are opportunities for Apprenticeships in areas such as Accounting and Business Administration.
