Course Overview
This is a practical, highly flexible course specifically designed to meet the needs of learners wishing to acquire welding skills at a beginner level.
What You Will Study
You will study the theory and practice of welding in one of the following:
- Metal Inert Gas Welding (MIG)
- Tungsten Inert Gas Welding (TIG)
- Manual Metal Arc Welding (ARC)
- Attendance Expectations
You will attend college on a Monday evening 6.00 - 9.00pm and Tuesday evening 6.00 - 9.00pm.
- How You Will Be Assessed
You will complete five practical welding test pieces.
There is also an oral assessment requiring you to answer questions on welding processes and health and safety.
- Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but you will need a keen interest in developing welding skills.

Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students.
- Further Study
Level 2 Award in Welding Skills or Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Level 2 (employment permitting).
