What You Will Study
This programme of study has been aligned to apprenticeship standards and as such will develop knowledge , skills and behaviours that are required by the sector but also support progression to a level 2 apprenticeship standard.
These include:
Knowledge
K1 Workplace health, safety, and welfare legislation requirements.
K2 Noise Hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of them in accordance with organisational procedures
K3 Use of PPE
K4 Electrical Hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of them in accordance with organisational procedures.
K5 Chemical Hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of incidents in accordance with organisational procedures.
K6 Biological Hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of incidents in accordance with organisational procedures
K7 Manual Handling Hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of the in accordance with organisational procedures
K8 Slip and trip hazards associated with the workplace and the reporting of them in accordance with organisational procedures.
K9 Safe working at height
K10 Drug and alcohol awareness
Skills
S1 Work effectively and safely within a team environment, cooperating and supporting team members when required.
S2 Communicate effectively using oral and written communication methods.
S3 Use own time effectively to consistently complete work on time to agreed programmes.
S4 Identify and locate underground services to avoid strikes and loss of service.
S5 Operate powered tools such as disc cutters and compaction plates.
S6 Carry out safely excavation in hard material.
S7 Mix and place concrete for small scale surface reinstatement
S8 Prepare and lay granular paths
S9 Prepare and lay paving slabs
S10 Prepare and lay block paving
S11 Lay brickwork to support the raising of ironwork and other small-scale substructure works.
Behaviours and attitudes
B1 Health and Safety-first attitude - Is aware of the importance of following procedures and following guidance of senior members of the team due to the many risks and hazards present in the work environment and acts in accordance with H & S requirements, constantly evaluating the operation for hazards and takes appropriate actions whilst following safe systems of work, avoids taking short cuts that may increase risks.
B2 Working effectively - Undertakes the work in a reliable and productive manner.
B3 Attitude and discipline - Adopts a professional approach to the work and to colleagues and clients and show professionalism whilst being polite and courteousto peers, managers, clients, public and others, questions and challenge others when procedures are not being followed.
B4 Maintain good working relationships when conforming to productive working Practices. Teamwork and independent working - Working and engaging collaboratively and effectively with co-workers of different occupations to achieve requisite results safely and efficiently and safe working
- Attendance Expectations
The guided learning hours for this programme of study are expected to be 35 to 70 hours.
The delivery will be for a full week(s) .
- How You Will Be Assessed
Practical assessments will be continuous over the period; with theory assessments in relation to Health and Safety taking place at the end of the course.
