The light vehicle workshop

Course Overview

Are you embarking on a career within the light vehicle industry? This course will give you the opportunity to study for a valuable vocational qualification and give you the chance to brush up on your English and Maths skills.

This course is 50% classroom study and 50% practical work. You’ll learn by attending practical and theoretical sessions in our classrooms and state-of-the-art motor vehicle workshops.

What You Will Study

You will study Health and Safety as a mandatory unit, plus:

  • Engineering and Equipment and Materials
  • Vehicle Power Units
  • Liquid Cooling and Lubrication Systems
  • Introduction to battery and lighting systems
  • Steering and Suspension Systems
  • Vehicle Braking Systems
  • Vehicle Inspection
  • Wheels and TyresVehicle Valeting
  • How You Will Be Assessed

    You’ll be assessed through practical tasks conducted in our mechanical workshops and evolve online knowledge examinations and portfolio building.

  • Entry Requirements

    Predicted GCSEs Grade 9-1.


    AND


    A good reference from Head of Year 10 or Headteacher.


    AND


    A keen interest in the cars, motorcycles, and the automotive industry.

  • Further Study

    On successful completion and with the required English and Maths grades you can progress through the levels.
