Course Overview
This creative and exciting pathway is aimed at broadening and expanding your art and design skills to a very high standard in areas such as drawing, design generation, painting, three-dimensional design, printmaking, ceramics, surface design, and digital applications. Working within a creative studio environment and IT suites, you will develop your knowledge, self-confidence, communication, time-management and presentation skills, resulting in a professional portfolio and body of work.
Exploring the work and ideas of other artists and designers is key to underpinning all assignment work and supporting independent idea generation and development. The BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design Practice has a mandatory work placement aspect that requires you to seek an art related work placement which may include participation in the local 'Art Walk'. There may also be an opportunity for a residential (subject to numbers).
You will learn through a series of thought-provoking topics and themes, diverse assignments/live briefs and practical workshops, led by friendly, supportive and experienced staff.
Enrichment:
All students will have the opportunity to visit and explore local galleries and surrounding areas such as the Hepworth, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Leeds City Art Gallery, Sheffield Art Gallery and the Henry Moore Institute.

- How You Will Be Assessed
You will be continually assessed by your tutors throughout the academic year, and an external moderator will verify and confirm your final grades.
Year 1 will complete one module, A1 Skills Development and A2 Creative Project and these will be internally assessed and graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
Year 2 will complete a further module, B1 Personal Progression and B2 Creative Industry Response, graded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. The combination of grades from both years will determine the overall grade for the course.
- Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4, including English or Maths and a Grade 3 in either English or Maths.
OR
4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4 including English or Maths and a Level 2 in either English or Maths.
OR
Successful completion of Level 2 at Merit Grade and GCSE English or Maths at Grade 4 and Level 2 English or Maths.PLUS
Satisfactory interview and a portfolio of work for all options above. - Further Study
On completion with the appropriate pass and English and Maths grades you can progress through the levels.
This study programme offers progression to a variety of art-related courses. Our own Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a recommended progression route and the HNC/D Art and Design (Fine Art) or you may wish to apply to a university. During the course we will explain all the possible options and support you through the application process.
