The trainee dental nurse will learn and develop whilst working alongside one of our dentists in the surgery. Following initial training and under the supervision of a qualified dental nurse, the trainee will be learning a range of clinical and patient-facing responsibilities and become an effective member of our dental team.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Initially working alongside and observing a qualified dental nurse in a surgery setting
  • Learning how the decontamination process works and how to effectively sterilise instruments
  • Learning about the extensive variety of instruments used within the practice and what different treatments they may be used for
  • Learning how to record the charting teeth during examinations and note down any treatment that may need to be carried out

Day to day tasks you could be doing:

  • Assisting the dentist in clinical procedures, providing chairside assistance
  • Keeping high standards of infection control whilst following practice policy and procedure
  • Preparing instruments for use
  • Monitor stock levels for all materials
  • Sterilising Dental equipment according practice procedures
  • Handling lab work and arranging deliveries

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying
  • The candidate will have needed to achieve a 4/C or equivalent in their GCSE maths & English to complete the Level 3 apprenticeship

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

A full-time team member at the practice.
