Course Overview
This course can either be studied at Wakefield College or Selby College.
This creative and exciting pathway is aimed at broadening and expanding your specialist artistic art and design skills in areas such as drawing, design, painting, printmaking, surface design and digital applications. Working within a creative studio environment and IT suites, you will develop artistic knowledge, self-confidence, communication, time-management and presentation skills, resulting in a professional portfolio and body of work.
Exploring the work and ideas of other artists and designers is key to underpinning all assignment work and aiding independent idea generation and development. This course includes industrial links and live briefs to develop wider communication skills, team work, confidence, resilience and time management.

- How You Will Be Assessed
You will be continually assessed by your tutors throughout the academic year, and an external moderator will verify and confirm your final grades.
Level 1 - will complete Units 1–6 which are graded at a Pass, and Unit 7 is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction and will determine the overall grade for the course.
- Entry Requirements
3 GCSEs at Grade 9-1 including English and Maths.
- Further Study
On completion with the appropriate pass and English and Maths grades you can progress through the levels.
This study programme offers progression to a variety of Level 2 and Level 3 art-related courses. Our own HND Art and Design (Art Practice) is a recommended progression route and the new BA Art and Design – Arts Practice (enterprise) (Top-Up) or you may wish to apply to a university. During the course we will explain all the possible options and support you through the application process.
